Charlie Christian - The Genius of the Electric Guitar

After Charlie Christian, every jazz guitarist for the next 30 years sounded like a relative or a copycat of him. Originally a pianist, he picked up the guitar when he became a student of Eddie Durham, the inventor of the amplified guitar. He could play the guitar like it was a saxophone, smooth and swinging. Charlie Christian played with legends like Benny Goodman, Thelonius Monk, and Dizzy Gillespie. However his time as an up-and-coming star was short lived. He died of tuberculosis in 1942 at the age of 25. This compilation showcases his brilliance, and is a must-have for any jazz fan, and even more of a must-have for anyone who is a fan of jazz guitar specifically.
