Laserdance - Future Generation

Review stolen from Kaptain Carbon on waffles:
"This is it. No need to look any further. I never knew what I was missing until I had it. Much like a door opening in wall I never knew existed, my experience with Laserdance could be compared with an unseen weight which was lifted the day "Power Run" was first played. This is the sound of a thousand green laser beams crossing over darkened perspective plane with a vanishing point which flashes to a 4/4 beat. This is optimism in its purest form. The sound running through the heads of CEOs when closing million dollar investment deals on treadmills. This dull shine of a new Walkman combined with the weight of a DynaTAC 8000X. This is the future of music as heard by someone in 1983. I finally understand no one can own a Laserdance record; a Laserdance record owns you; and your family.

While American disco was taken out of commission during the early 80's, its European counterpart continued to enter into an extended after-party complete with space suits and painted backgrounds of far away lands. Space Disco, which was born in the late 70's, reached its cosmic zenith in the early 80's. Its sound typifies the feeling and spirit of the early 80's; a sense of flying optimistic eclipsing the speed of light. Laserdance's classic debut soars on the wings of electronic hand claps and synth lines which only exist inside the glass walls of the 80's. The work of Lindstrom, Datashat and soundtracks to corporate training videos owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Space Disco titans. So whether it is breakfast on a powerboat or a couple of cocktails with the boss's daughter, Laserdance is the perfect soundtrack for any success-driven occasion."
Note: "Space Disco" is also referred to as "Synthdance" and "Spacedance" and is a subgenre of italo-disco.

Sun Dial - Out One Way/In One Way

Stolen Review from waffles's S9S (all credit for review and original rec):

"If I say psychedelia, you would most likely think of The Grateful Dead, or hear Grace Slick doing her steady vocal buildup on "White Rabbit" in your mental jukebox. And yes, you dear Pink Floydian, you would no doubt "See Emily Play". If I say neo-psychedelia, however, your inner reference search might turn up 'nichts'.

That's nothing to be ashamed of and it doesn't really matter because you have heard bands that flirted with this evolution of its better known root genre. "Really?" Hell yes! Think Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Church, The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and Spacemen 3... Need I go on? It's kind of hard to tag this genre with one certain sound or scene and really, you shouldn't bother. The bands that operate(d) within this genre usually extract or copy a musical idea from psychedelia and have a bit of an experiment with it. If you look at the names I listed, you can probably guess that they sound a tad different from one another.

One thing you should be bothered with is that you probably don't have Sun Dial in your collection, and that is a shame, because Other Way Out is an outstanding album. It's so meticulously crafted you would stamp 1967 on it as a recording date instead of 1990. And that's a compliment. With a sound like a Barrett-era Pink Floyd with space rockers Hawkwind combined, this record transports you back in time and space to a place where you can 'feed your head'. Dropping acid is not even needed as listening to this record will give you the same kind of mind-expanding experience. If you want to sample a track, start with "Exploding In Your Mind". Happy feeding time!"

I grabbed the one with the bonus disc "In One Way" that has outtakes and different versions of tracks on "Out One Way"

blink-182 - Take Off Your Pants and Jacket

Turns out that the only version of this album I had was the edited one, which didn't include any bonus tracks! A renewed interest in blink (because I'm finally seeing them!) caused this update! Hopefully I'll get more updates done, no more excuses. Anyways, this album is the follow up to the bands 15 million-selling album "Enema of the State" (the one with the nurse with big you-know-whats on the cover), and was described by bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus: "[Take Off Your Pants and Jacket] was the next step for Blink-182. There's songs on this record that sound like they come off of older records, like Cheshire Cat, songs that sound like they come off of Dude Ranch, songs that sound like they might come off of Enema of the State, and songs that are the next step altogether. I think it's a lot lighter scope than what [people] might expect from Blink-182. We have some real fast songs, some slower songs. Travis [Barker] wanted to try some drum loops on this record. [We tried] different vocal effects, different arrangements, different rhythms. I think that this record will probably surprise some people."
This album is either one that people love or hate, personally, I love it.

Update and a rant.

Well, sorry for not updating this for so long. Things have been insane around here lately. I'm hoping to get back into updating soon.
Now here's the rant part:
I was wrongfully banned from what.cd, apparently I'm a ratio cheater. This is completely false, and having only downloaded 100 or so MB from there and having uploaded 10 torrents, I don't see how I could be mistaken for a cheater. The asshole in the disabled channel didn't believe me at all, and I don't see any way for me to be able to convince them otherwise. So here's what I say to what.cd - "Thanks a lot, now go fuck yourselves." I tried to contribute and be an active member and was warned for uploading the only release of an album in a bitrate too low for their standards. It's like a slap in the face, trying to do the right and thing and being wrongfully banned for it.
/rant.

Venetian Snares - Winter In the Belly of a Snake

Everything Aaron Funk does as Venetian Snares is intense. That's the only word to describe the sound, intense. Drill 'n' bass at it's finest (think Aphex Twin, certain Squarepusher albums, Amon Tobin), every Venetian Snares album is composed of blisteringly fast breakbeats that have been sliced and diced into mind melting sounds, mixed with samples and harsh melodies (if you can call them melodies). Winter In the Belly Of a Snake is another solid album from the Winnipeg artist.

Boris - Pink

Any band that gets its name from a song off of the Melvins album Bullhead is alright in my book. Although this album is significantly different style-wise from their other albums, this is perhaps their best. Fans of the band's earlier work would argue that the Japanese trio crafted this album specifically with American audiences in mind. That's not to say that this album should be ignored (despite shoe-gaze influences on several tracks), in fact it should be paid attention to as a great sludge album. To quote AllMusic critic Thom Jurek, "The rootsy metallic thrash of the band outdoes anything they've done before -- "Woman on the Screen" sounds like Iggy Pop fronting the MC5 of Kick Out the Jams in the Sunn 0))) era -- all in two-minutes-and-thirty-eight seconds."
