Impact Unit - My Friend The Pit

Ever heard of a guy named Dicky Barret? You should have. He is the lead singer for the multi-platinum ska-punk/skacore band The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. But before that, he was the singer for a relatively unknown Boston hardcore band called Impact Unit. Pretty average classic hardcore, but very cool to hear Dicky's distinctive voice from before anybody knew who he was. From what I know, this is all Impact Unit ever put out.

Photek - Form And Function

A compilation of sorts, this album contains all six singles from Photek Records, tracks that made a name for Rupert Parkes in the jungle community, but only four of them are originals, the rest being remixes and two new productions. Despite the lack of originals on this album, there is no lack of originality. This album has excellent production, but it isn't overwhelming sonically, at times one would even say it's extremely sparse. This is right up there with Goldie's Timeless as one of my favorite drum 'n' bass/jungle albums.

Max Levine Ensemble - 3 albums

The other night I was on What (if you don't know, you don't need to) looking under the tag "folk punk". I started by going to a band I knew I liked, This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb. That led me to another band, Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains, who despite being broken up, are AMAZING. That band led me to the Max Levine Ensemble. I expected to hear folk punk, but it turns out it was pop-punk with some ska-punk. A pleasant surprise. I suppose they were tagged as folk punk because they are on Plan-It-X Records, but that's the only thing. The lead singer has a voice that should be in a folk punk band, high and nasal sounding, but they make it work. Imagine Against All Authority, if they lightened up a little bit.

Chach, Cops, and Donuts
Compilation of their first two albums plus bonus unreleased content.

Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus

I love the sound of a saxophone. It always sounds so good when leading a jazz band. Especially if it's in the hands of someone like Sonny Rollins. A brilliant, talented, and inventive player, Sonny Rollins is a jazz legend (and possibly the best jazz saxophonist) for a reason. With a career spanning over 50 years, it's hard to find a place to start. This album is Sonny doing some of his best ever, and is one of those albums that gets a first time listener to become a full on jazz fan.

Stay here, because there's a GREAT bunch of updates coming in the next few days.

The National - 3 albums

The National's critically acclaimed 2007 release Boxer, is one of my favorite albums. Ever since the first time I heard songs like "Fake Empire" and "Ada" I've thought to myself, "I should get the rest of their albums." Two years later, after having that same thought over and over again, I finally did. If you've heard Boxer, which was piano-heavy and stunningly beautiful, you're in for more of a surprise than newcomers to the band. The band's other albums have a similar sound but are much more indie rock, relying more on guitar. This in no way means that the albums aren't good, because they deserve every ounce of the critical acclaim they received.

New Layout/Template

Let me know what you think of the new look! I like it a lot, but it still needs work to be just right.
I've customized this one quite a bit, and I haven't had a chance to play around with the HTML much, but I'll get to that later.
